Moving Tips
-
Set aside a small container or box for your valuables such as important papers, keys, medicine and things of importance that you don't want displaced during your move.
Keep this box with you through out your move.
- Appliances
Disconnect all appliances. Remove loose fittings and accessories on large appliances. Pack small appliances in boxes cushioned with packing paper.
- Electronics
Small electronics such as computers, DVD player, stereo's and small TV's should be packed upright in boxes with enough padding on all sides. Large electronics such as console and screen TV's we will wrap with movers quilts.
- Lamps
Disassemble lamps before packing. Pack lamp bases and lamp shades in seperate boxes.
- Clothes
Clothes may be left in dresser drawers. Large boxes can hold a lot of clothes without making the box too heavy. Hanging clothes travel best in wardrobe boxes. We provide reusable wardrobe boxes for a small fee.
- Plants
Place all small plants in an open box.
- Outdoor Equipment
We do not move paint, gas or flammables. Drain fuel from lawn mowers ect. Drain garden hoses and pack in box. Pack lawn sprinklers, small garden hand tools, etc. Long-handled tools such as rakes, shovels ect. can be tied together with a strap or taped.
- Boxes Packed by Owner
Choosing the right box! Smaller boxes are usually used for heavier items such as books to keep the weight of your box reasonable. Larger boxes are usually used for light but bulky items such as linens, clothes, pillows ect. Remember not to make the box too heavy -- someone has to carry it.
Most damage in moving comes from one item vibrating against another. Using the right packing materials to protect your valuables makes the difference. You can supplement packing paper with blankets and pillows or even clothing to serve as a buffer between breakable objects. We suggest that you don't use newspaper because it smudges. There should be no empty space in a box however don't overpack the box either.
- Packing your Kitchen
Individually wrap each breakable dish, glass, etc. in packing paper. Place saucers, plates and platters on edge. Do not stack flat. Cups and bowls may be placed inside each other and wrapped 3 or 4 in a bundle. Pots, pans, etc. can be stacked in a box with packing paper between them.
